Sweet treats are always readily available during the summer. Whether it’s s’mores while camping, ice cream or ice pops to beat the heat, or a tropical cocktail while on vacation, there are plenty of opportunities to indulge during this season. Although sweet treats are delicious, the extra sugar on your teeth increases acid and bacteria, leading to the development of decay. While it is perfectly fine to enjoy treats from time to time, it is important to be sure that you are eating plenty of healthy foods that are great for your teeth. These are examples of healthy foods you should include in your diet daily:
- Leafy greens
- Yogurt and cheese
- Lean proteins
- Carrots, celery, apples
Whenever possible, we recommend drinking water. It is good for your body and extremely beneficial to your oral health. Water helps remove any lingering food and bacteria from your mouth. Although sports drinks may seem like a great idea, especially when it’s hot, they are full of sugar that can be extremely harmful to your oral health. Water is an excellent replacement for sports drinks, soft drinks, and other sugary options. If you like to flavor your water, adding fresh fruit and mint is refreshing and delicious.
