Why Do We Have Two Intraoral Scanners?

If you’ve been a patient here for a while, we may have used an intraoral scanner to make digital impressions of your mouth. An intraoral scanner is a small, handheld wand, so there are no impression trays or putty. It creates detailed 3D images of your teeth that appear on screen in real time. Our iTero scanner has been part of our workflow for some time, and it performs exceptionally well. Because it’s so comfortable for our patients and produces such high-quality images, we decided to add a new intraoral scanner that’s even more advanced. Read on to learn more about it.
Introducing the Dexis Imprevo
Our newest high-tech tool is the Dexis Imprevo Intraoral scanner. We chose the Dexis Imprevo for its exceptional performance, usability, and workflow, which means even better and more accurate treatment planning for you.
What the Dexis Intraoral Scanner Does Well
We’ll continue to use the iTero scanner for Invisalign® treatment planning and monitoring. The Dexis Imprevo, however, is ideal for restorations and complex treatments. Here’s what sets it apart:
- A 25-mm depth of field makes it easier to capture deep preparations and tight spaces between teeth — even in the most complex cases
- At 40 frames per second, with parallel processing, it’s ultra-fast and produces exceptionally detailed images
- Enhanced color and sharper margins improve accuracy for crowns, bridges, and prosthetics
What the Dexis Imprevo Can Do for You
If you ever need a restoration, dental implants, or complex bite work, the Dexis Imprevo intraoral scanner gives us a more detailed picture of your teeth, gums, and mouth. You’ll also spend less time in the chair because it’s so fast. This also helps us stay on schedule and deliver faster results. This highly advanced tool also produces top-quality images, enabling us to create superior restorations and surgical guides. That might seem a little technical, but it affects the quality and fit of your restoration, the outcome of your treatment, and your overall experience.
The Bigger Picture
Investing in additional technology isn’t something we do lightly. Our choices reflect our commitment to ensuring that, whatever your treatment involves, we have the best tools for the job. By adding the Dexis Imprevo, we now have more options, which means more personalized dental care for you.
