When To Replace Your Toothbrush And Other Helpful Tips
We encourage our patients to visit our office every four to six months for a routine oral hygiene examination and cleaning. We see our patients infrequently during the year, so it is important that they care for their teeth and oral health between visits. Caring for teeth properly helps prevent decay and other oral health problems from developing. Here are some helpful tips to help ensure optimal oral health:
When To Replace Your Toothbrush
It is important to replace a toothbrush every 2-3 months and after an illness. Germs and bacteria can linger on the toothbrush and lead to reinfection. It is also necessary to replace a toothbrush when the bristles become flattened or bent. Damaged bristles do not clean teeth properly.
Importance of Flossing
Are you flossing daily? If you are not, then we encourage you to start today. Using dental floss is just as important as brushing your teeth. Dental floss removes lingering food and bacteria from between teeth. If not removed, it can lead to tooth decay as well as gum disease. Your dentist can show you how to floss properly if you need help.
Make Better Beverage Choices
Many people are surprised to learn that their beverage choices are just as important as their food choices. Some drinks have just as much, if not more, sugar than candy. Soft drinks, sports drinks, juice, and many sugary coffee creations are not wise beverage choices. We encourage our patients to drink as much water as possible. Water is not only a great choice for your overall health, but it also helps to remove lingering food and bacteria from your mouth.
We encourage you to contact our office, which is located in Spring Hill, FL, if you have any other questions or concerns about your oral health. We would also love to schedule your next oral hygiene examination or recommended treatment. We hope to see you soon!
