What To Do In A Dental Emergency
At Ackley Dental Group, we are here to help you and your family with all of your dental health needs. With the school year ending shortly, we know many of our patients will be out and about enjoying the outdoors, biking, playing at playgrounds, traveling, and more. Nothing can ruin a fun time like a dental emergency. It is important to remember that a dental emergency can happen at any time, but it is necessary to remain calm and assess the situation.
What is a Dental Emergency?
A dental emergency is anything out of the ordinary that happens with your oral health. An emergency can be as common as pain or as severe as a tooth being knocked out. Some issues can be monitored from the comfort of your home, while others require immediate medical attention. If your loved one experiences a dental emergency, first check to see that the teeth are still intact, and if there is blood, look to see where it is coming from. It is best to have all of the information about the situation when you contact our office.
How to Prevent a Dental Emergency
Many dental emergencies can be avoided by visiting our office for a routine oral hygiene examination. During these visits, we check your teeth for current or potential problems. For existing issues, we can recommend immediate treatment. Otherwise, we will monitor the progress of any potential issues. If you avoid these visits or postpone needed treatment, your chance of experiencing a dental emergency increases. It is also important that you avoid these harmful habits:
- Chewing anything that is not food
- Biting your nails
- Overconsuming sugary foods and beverages
- Leaving teeth unprotected when playing contact sports
If you are in Spring Hill, FL or the surrounding area and experience a dental emergency, we encourage you to contact our office as soon as possible so we can determine if you need to be seen immediately for treatment. If you are unsure when your last oral hygiene examination was, we can determine if you need an appointment. We hope you have a safe rest of the spring and summer.
