92% Of Adults Have This

Did you know that 92% of American adults have cavities in their permanent teeth? Cavities and tooth decay are one of the biggest health problems in the world, and while they are common in children and teenagers, older adults are susceptible as well. Even if you keep up with brushing, flossing and regular cleanings, frequent snacking or sugary drinks can undo all your hard work and cause tooth decay. However, there is a treatment that can give your teeth an added layer of protection and give you peace of mind. Read on to learn more.
A simple and safe way to protect your teeth from cavities is through the application of dental sealants. A dental sealant is a thin protective coating that is applied to the back teeth, forming a barrier against food and bacteria that, when trapped, can form tiny holes in tooth enamel.
The Dental Sealant Process
The dental sealant process is one of the simplest treatments we perform, but one that offers a big impact in terms of keeping your teeth healthy. We typically treat teeth with dental sealants after a routine cleaning so that the teeth are properly cleaned before sealing. First, an acidic gel is applied to the back teeth, which helps the sealant stick to the surface. We then rinse the acidic solution and dry the teeth. Next, we paint the sealant onto the surface of the teeth, making sure it gets into the grooves of the molars. The sealant is then hardened using a special light.
This treatment is very effective and can give you protection against tooth decay for up to 10 years. It’s important to note, however, that sealants aren’t a substitute for brushing and flossing. We always recommend brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day.
