Crowns are synthetic caps made of porcelain, ceramic, gold or a combination thereof. They are fabricated in a lab to esthetically fit the shape, shade, bite of your mouth specifically. The crown is then cemented over your tooth as a permanent restoration. The reasons a crown may be required can vary, however the goal of the restoration is to restore a tooth’s function and strength. Crowns are also used to attach bridges, cover implants, prevent a cracked tooth from becoming worse, or restore a tooth with extensive decay. Crowns also serve an aesthetic use, and are applied when a discolored, worn down or stained tooth needs to be restored to a natural appearance.

All-ceramic crowns are the most recent advancement in the field of crown and bridge dentistry. All ceramic crowns have an inner dense, tooth-colored core, over which porcelain is bonded.
