Importance Of Following Directions Before And After Treatment
As much as it is our goal for our patients to have ideal oral health and not experience any dental decay or other oral health issues, unfortunately, that is not always the case. Thankfully, at Ackley Dental Group, we offer a number of dental treatments that can improve and repair any damage or concerns with your oral health. As with any medical treatment, it is imperative that you follow all of our instructions before and after your procedure. Failure to do so will negatively impact the success of treatment as well as your recovery time.
Avoid Treatment Complications
There are a number of medical conditions that require certain precautions prior to receiving dental treatments. For example, some patients may require antibiotics prior to their appointment, while others may need to adjust the dosage of regular medications. If patients do not follow these directions, they are setting themselves up for complications, such as abnormal bleeding and infections, following treatment.
When patients do not follow after-treatment instructions, they may experience complications and need to have the same treatment repeated or additional procedures. This can lead to unnecessary discomfort as well as added expense. Each patient heals differently following treatment, but it is wise to follow all of our instructions, especially in terms of rest and eating.
Don’t Eat While Numb
Many of the treatments we provide to patients require that we use a numbing agent. Following the completion of treatment, it is best to avoid eating until you regain feeling in your mouth. Eating while numb can lead to injury in your mouth. It is easy to bite your tongue, cheeks, and lips leading to additional problems such as canker sores. It is also wise to eat on the opposite side of the treatment site until you are fully healed, unless we provide other instructions.
